Electrochemical Nucleation and Growth Mechanism of Aluminum on AZ31 Magnesium Alloys

In this study, the nucleation and growth kinetics behavior of aluminum (Al) were investigated in Choline-chloride (ChCl)-urea deep eutectic solvent (DES) ionic liquids. The studies cyclic voltammetric chronoamperometry demonstrated that electrodeposition process Al was controlled by three-dimensional progressive instantaneous nucleation. And nuclei is a diffusion-controlled process. diffusion coefficient ions calculated at 343 K, is, 1.773 × 10−10 cm2/s. coating obtained on surface AZ31 magnesium alloy electrode under appropriate conditions. According to morphology film, it could be inferred theoretical deposit thickness similar actual thickness, apparent rate slower than electrolytes. So, later deposition, lamellar along direction formed, depleted zones existed around big grain Al-rich region.
